FAQs

When does the local fishing season start? Fly fishing and boat fishing in Colorado are both a year round activity. Ice fishing in Colorado typically begins around Thanksgiving and ends somewhere in the month of March.

What species of fish do we catch? - Rainbow Trout - Cutbow Trout - Brown Trout - Lake Trout (Mackinaw) - Northern Pike - Tiger Trout - Splake Trout

Where do we fish? Spinney Mountain Reservoir, 11-Mile Reservoir, Rampart Reservoir, Antero Reservoir, and the world famous gold medal fishery known as the Dream Stream, and several other areas of the South Platte River.

What does it cost for people out of state to fish? Pikes Peak Fishing Charters charges the same price for all, regardless of residence status. If you are an out of state client, a single day non-resident fishing license is $17.64, and a 5-day license is $33.53. The extra rod stamp allowing two rods in the water is $10 per year.

Do you provide bait/tackle/all required fishing gear? At Pikes Peak Fishing Charters we provide everything you will need to have a successful day on the water. All you need to bring is any food/drinks you would like, a fishing license with extra rod stamp (boat fishing only), and a signed waiver form provided via email upon booking.

Do my kids need a fishing license? Anyone 16 years of age and older require a Colorado fishing license. We do, however, purchase and provide all necessary licenses for all attendees in your tour party.

Do you provide life jackets for boat fishing? Yes. We have life jackets for persons of all ages and sizes. Children 12 years and younger are required by state law to wear a USCG approved life jacket while on the boat. There will be a USCG approved life jacket on board for everyone fishing with us.

What if I'm not going to fish, do I still have to pay? Yes. CPW still requires we provide them the required percentage. Even if you aren't fishing, you will get one outstanding boat ride with some of the most picturesque views of Colorado.

What does it cost to go fishing on your boat? - $450 for a single person - $50 for each additional person

What does an ice fishing trip cost? **6-hour trips** - $500 for a single person - $50 for each additional **8-hour trophy trips** - $700 for a single person - $100 for each additional **8-hour trophy northern pike trips** The same cost as an 8-hour trip and offered only at Eleven Mile reservoir

What does it cost to go fly fishing? **4-hour trips** - $350 for a single person - $100 for each additional person **6-hour trips** - $450 for a single person - $100 for each additional person Maximum of 3 people per trip. For groups between 4-6 people, two guides may be available. Reach out to check availability.

Are your fishing trips catch and release only? Fly fishing the Dream Stream is catch and release only. All other locations allow you to keep any fish you catch.

How many fish am I allowed to catch? We encourage all parties to keep/bag only what they will eat as protecting our valued resource is of the utmost importance! Each reservoir has different keep/bag limits. - Eleven Mile Reservoir - Northern Pike have no limit - Trout bag limits are 4 trout per person, no more than 2 of those 4 may be 16" or over - Kokanee Salmon bag limit is 10 per person - Antero Reservoir - Trout bag limit is 4 trout per person - Spinney Mountain Reservoir - Northern Pike have no limit - Only a single trout may be kept per person and it must be 20" or larger - Rampart Reservoir - Lake trout bag limit is 2 per person - All trout bag limit total is 4 per person, with no more than 2 of those being lake trout

Is your fishing guide service licensed, bonded, and insured in Colorado? Pikes Peak Fishing Charters is a DORA approved fishing business and we are fully licensed and insured. We have permits/special use agreements with Eleven Mile reservoir, Spinney Mountain reservoir, Antero reservoir, Rampart reservoir, and several areas of the South Platte river which includes the world famous gold medal fly fishery The Dream Stream.

Are you able to accommodate physically handicapped customers? Absolutely! We have accommodated individuals with wheelchairs weighing 600lbs. Everyone deserves to get out on the water and catch fish...we do everything in our power to make this happen, regardless of any disabilities or restrictions!

What is the appropriate tip for a Colorado fishing guide? Although tipping is a personal decision and the guides appreciate any and all gratuity, industry standard is approximately 20% of the total trip price.

What should I bring on my Colorado fly fishing trip? A full fishing checklist is located on our website and one will be emailed to you upon booking. Clothing recommendations will depend on the time of year to accommodate for temperatures, heat, and inclement weather. We recommend bringing water and any food you would like to have while on the water. If you have your own fly rod, waders, and boots feel free to bring those. If not, we have enough for all!

What is your cancellation policy? We require a 7-day notice in order for you to receive a full refund as it is difficult to rebook within any shorter of a time frame.

Are there any hidden fees in your fishing services? We do not hide any fees and have no fuel surcharge fee. Unfortunately there is a 3% credit card processing fee at time of booking due to banking regulations but other than that, no hidden or add on fees.

Do you provide food and drink? Please bring any food/drinks you would like for the day. We are always fishing at 8,000 feet and above so we strongly recommend you hydrate for optimal fishing performance!

Can you guarantee that I'll catch fish? While we can't guarantee how the fishing will be, you can count on our guides working tirelessly from start to finish to put fish in the net.

What time of day are your expeditions usually booked at? We normally have morning and afternoon trips available. The general rule is the earlier we start, the better the fishing is. Our first trips of the day usually begin between 6am and 7:30am.
